By default, WMS layers are loaded as background layers in the web client. Background layers are loaded independently from the other layers and map rendering becomes faster. However, the disadvantage is that in this way only one WMS is visible in the map at a time. In order for WMS to be treated like other layers, the "External WMS Layer" option must be unchecked in the map settings in the QGIS Cloud backend. Then the WMS will be treated as cascaded WMS layers and multiple WMS layers can be loaded at the same time.
